Review of Glow Recipe: A K-Beauty inspired Skincare Company

Korean beauty, also known as K-beauty, has taken over the market in the United States in recent years. Many different K-beauty trends began to appear in skincare lines from double cleansing to 10 step skin care routines and more.

Officially launching in 2014 and gaining influence after their SharkTank performance in late 2015, GlowRecipe is an increasingly popular skincare brand in the United States. GlowRecipe founders Sarah Lee and Christine Change were inspired by K-beauty and the trends that stemmed from K-beauty when developing their skincare lines. They are known for their skincare products incorporating fruit, most specifically the original products of their brand; the Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask and Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Moisturizer. GlowRecipe is a primary example of the influence that Korean beauty and skincare trends have on the global market and popular culture outside of Korean.

Glow Recipe has a blog with educational materials, reviews and more as a subdivision of their website, called The Glow Edit. Here they are not only promoting their products but also promote and educate about various K-beauty skincare trends over the years. One post titled “Our Fave K-beauty Trends of All Time highlights trends including Glass Skin, 7 Skin method, Masking everywhere, PHAs, and Double cleansing.

Reviewing GlowRecipe as a company, they have a wide range of skincare products available on their website and although they launched with only two products available, now have an extensive line with a product for all your skincare needs. As they have grown their brand has grown to be extremely recognizable and a part of pop culture within the skincare industry by being a bright, distinct brand that is inspired by Korean beauty with is popular globally.

GlowRecipe supports sustainability with 100% recyclable packaging for their products, sustainable shipping and printed material, and will be carbon neutral by 2022, find out more visiting their website here. As a brand they support diversity and inclusion, environmental preservation and female empowerment and education (via their subpage Glow for Good).

GlowRecipe products are made with no animal by-products and GlowRecipe is now bunny certified that they are animal cruelty free. The brand also stays away from environmental hazards in their products such as plastic microbeads. Colorants are not used in their skincare products either and they are transparent about the chemicals and fragrances used within their products.

My favorite products from GlowRecipe include the “Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask”,  “Pineapple-C Bright Serum” and the “Banana Souffle Moisture Cream”.

My favorite thing about all these products is how lightweight, smooth and effective they are. GlowRecipe writes in their About Us section that they want to inspire and their products make skincare feel so romanticized and fancy. The scents of each product also add to the idea of freshness and the magical feeling after you wash your face is amplified by the fruity freshness of the products themselves.

Overall, GlowRecipe is a brand I really love and it is unique to see a skincare company and products that are inspired by popular culture trends and K-beauty expand globally. As the company continues to grow, it’s exciting to watch the product line expand and new trends be incorporated throughout the company.
