Just over a year ago, Seoul Fashion Week became one of the first major events in fashion to be cancelled due to the coronavirus. Because things went completely online due to the global pandemic and are finally starting to open back up, Seoul Fashion was able to return for its Fall 2021 season in March of this year. Seoul Fashion Week 2021 showcased 43 companies with their collections being livestreamed from Seoul national museums as runways. Here are some favorites from Fashion Week this year!
MANOD
Manod, which began as a menswear brand in2018, has since expanded its offering and become a favorite at Seoul Fashion Week. Lim Hun Soo’s “Human6.0” collection for Fall 2021 has a post-apocalyptic feel to it, with leather outerwear, edgy tailoring, and barbed wiring. The label seeks to produce comfortable pieces for both men and women with minimal functional details and an edgy vibe.
PAINTERS
Won Jeon founded his brand Painters in 2018 after studying fashion and working as a designer in both Seoul and London. By avoiding patterns and aesthetics, he hopes to create a new concept of beauty. His most recent line, for Fall 2021, focuses on clothing that provides safety through oversized silhouettes and bulky fabrics.
NOTKNOWING
For the company Notknowing, designer Sieun Kim combines sportswear and subculture. Its Fall 2021 collection has trippy, graphic designs, statement outerwear, and baggy silhouettes, to name a few elements of a cool-person wardrobe. It’s no surprise that this fashion label has a cult following in Seoul. NotKnowing has already been seen on the streets of Korea by some of the country’s biggest artists and celebrities.
KIMZISU
Jisoo Kim, a graduate of the London College of Fashion, debuted her Seoul-based label Kimzisu in2019, experimenting with contrasting fabrics and unconventional, asymmetrical silhouettes. She was influenced by our rapidly changing digital landscape for Fall2021, creating a neon-tinged collection of textured details and sharp shapes.
